Tahir Hussain Andrabi stated that issues concerning Iranian oil tankers are matters between Iran and the governments directly involved, and Pakistan does not hold any specific position on the matter. He noted that Pakistan cannot comment on issues that are strictly between Iran and India.
Speaking during the weekly media briefing, Andrabi said Pakistan’s leadership is maintaining active diplomatic engagement with key regional countries, including Iran. Ishaq Dar has spoken with the Iranian foreign minister on three occasions, while Shehbaz Sharif has also contacted Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss the evolving regional situation.
The spokesperson further said the prime minister is expected to visit Saudi Arabia soon, while diplomatic communication with Gulf nations remains ongoing. According to him, the prime minister has already held several telephone discussions with leaders of Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
Andrabi emphasized that Pakistan is working to facilitate dialogue among regional capitals and aims to serve as a bridge promoting diplomatic engagement. He reiterated that Pakistan believes regional disputes should be addressed through dialogue, respect for sovereignty, and adherence to international law.
Regarding developments related to the Strait of Hormuz, the spokesperson said he could not confirm any specific contacts, though defence and military officials from Pakistan remain in communication with their Iranian counterparts.
He also noted that Pakistan’s policy toward Afghanistan has not changed significantly. A recent delegation’s visit to Afghanistan was in a private capacity, while discussions on broader issues concerning the country are ongoing. Andrabi added that a delegation led by China’s special representative is expected to visit Pakistan in the near future.
The spokesperson further claimed that the Afghan Taliban recently carried out aggressive actions at more than 50 locations.
