Karachi Starts Rs.154 Million Infrastructure Work in District East

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has inaugurated several development projects in Kashmir Colony and Chanesar Town located in District East. The projects aim to improve basic infrastructure and public facilities in different neighborhoods of Karachi.

The development work was carried out under the supervision of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). The initiative includes road carpeting, sewerage system upgrades, water supply improvements, and the installation of paver blocks.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Wahab said the projects were completed under the Annual Development Program 2024–25. The road carpeting project in Union Councils 1 to 6 of District East cost Rs. 154 million.

According to the mayor, the project included important improvements to the sewerage system. A 12-inch sewerage pipeline measuring 3,160 RFT was installed in the area. In addition, a 15-inch sewerage line measuring 6,969 RFT was also laid to strengthen drainage facilities.

The mayor said that improving sanitation infrastructure is essential for residents of Karachi. These upgrades are expected to reduce sewage problems and improve living conditions.

The project also focused on enhancing the water supply network. A 225 mm diameter water pipeline measuring 295 RFT has been installed. This step aims to improve water availability for households in the surrounding areas.

Street infrastructure was also upgraded as part of the development work. Authorities installed 60 mm natural color paver blocks across streets and roads. The paving work covered 323,698 square feet to improve road quality and accessibility.

In addition, asphalt carpeting was carried out on several major roads. Around 51,161 square feet of roads were resurfaced to ensure smoother travel for residents and commuters.

Murtaza Wahab said more development projects are planned across Karachi. KMC has included several schemes in different Union Councils of District East to upgrade roads and basic facilities.

He added that residents of Kashmir Colony will see further improvements soon. Several local issues are being addressed on a priority basis.

The mayor also announced that Saeed Ghani has approved a new road construction scheme worth about Rs. 200 million.

Another development project valued at Rs. 210 million has also been approved. This project will improve streets and sewerage lines in Chanesar Town, Mahmoodabad, Kashmir Colony, and Azam Basti. Work is expected to start after Eid.

Wahab also mentioned improvements to the Baloch Colony Expressway. The road was previously in poor condition but has now been upgraded. Roads near the Nursery area have also been improved.

He added that authorities are working to improve the drain on Korangi Road. The effort aims to solve rainwater drainage problems during the monsoon season in Karachi.
