The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to begin the distribution of solar systems under its household solarization scheme. The initiative aims to provide clean, sustainable energy to thousands of households across the province.
Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi instructed officials to complete all procedural requirements and start the distribution process without delay. The direction was given during a meeting held in Peshawar, where officials also briefed the chief minister on the project’s details.
The scheme will cover 130,000 households across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the merged districts. Under the plan, 65,000 households will receive solar systems free of cost, while another 65,000 households will get units at a 50 percent subsidized price, payable in easy installments.
Officials informed that the PC-1 of the project has been finalized and will soon be presented to the Provincial Development Working Party for approval. This step is crucial for moving the project forward efficiently.
A separate solarization initiative is being prepared under the Accelerated Implementation Program (AIP) for the merged districts. This component aims to provide solar systems to 120,000 households, with priority given to widows, persons with disabilities, temporarily displaced persons, families affected by natural disasters, and communities without access to electricity.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government emphasized that the allocation of solar systems will be based on population size in each district. The program aims to empower vulnerable communities while promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly energy solutions.
