Punjab Masstransit Fares to Stay Unchanged Despite Fuel Hike

The Punjab Masstransit Authority has announced that fares for the Orange Line Metro Train, Speedo buses, and other city transport services will remain unchanged despite the recent surge in petroleum prices.

Officials said the decision was taken to provide relief to commuters, noting that public transport is a primary source of travel within the city. Authorities emphasized that maintaining current fares will help ease the financial burden on daily passengers.

The announcement comes a day after the Pakistani government raised fuel prices by Rs55 per litre. Petrol prices have increased from Rs266.17 to Rs321.17 per litre, while diesel prices have risen from Rs280.86 to around Rs336 per litre.

Under the new system, petrol rates will now be reviewed weekly, allowing for more frequent adjustments in response to market conditions and energy sector challenges. The measure aims to align domestic fuel prices with global oil market fluctuations.

The Petroleum Minister confirmed that the hike is part of the government’s broader strategy to address pressures in the energy sector, ensuring sustainable fuel supply and economic stability. Authorities highlighted that the weekly review mechanism will make fuel pricing more responsive to international trends.

Despite rising petroleum costs, the Masstransit Authority assured citizens that ticket prices for major public transport services would not be increased, helping commuters manage their daily expenses amid economic pressures.
