Pakistan, Saudi Arabia Hold Urgent Security Talks Amid Iran War

Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, met Khalid bin Salman in Riyadh for an urgent security summit as tensions linked to the ongoing Iran conflict intensify.

During the meeting, the two leaders focused on shaping a coordinated response to recent strikes attributed to Iran against the Kingdom. The developments come after February 28 military operations carried out by the United States and Israel targeting Iranian facilities.

Both sides also invoked the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia last September. Under the agreement, any attack on one country would be considered an act of aggression against the other.

Prince Khalid bin Salman highlighted the seriousness of the situation in a public statement following the meeting. He urged Tehran to move beyond what he described as recent “wrong calculations” and prioritize regional stability rather than further escalation.

Officials described the meeting as a significant development in the long-standing security partnership between Islamabad and Riyadh. The discussions signaled a shift from traditional cooperation to a stronger and more structured military alliance between the two countries.

The enhanced partnership is aimed at strengthening collective security and creating a credible deterrence against cross-border threats, particularly amid rising tensions and uncertainty across the Middle East.
