Anti-Corruption authorities in Balochistan have arrested five Municipal Chief Officers from four municipal committees over allegations of embezzling millions of rupees.
The arrested officials include Muhammad Yaqub Sherani, Bashir Pilal, Abdul Majeed, Bashir Sadaya, and former Chief Officer Manzoor Ahmed. Sources said the arrests were conducted under the instructions of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and the DG of Anti-Corruption.
The Municipal Chief Officers belong to Mach, Awsta Muhammad, and Musakhel municipal committees. Authorities claimed the officers misused public funds and engaged in irregular financial practices, prompting the investigation.
Officials emphasized that the action reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to accountability and transparency in Balochistan’s local governance. The Anti-Corruption team stated that these arrests are part of a larger crackdown on corruption within municipal administrations.
Further investigations are underway to identify additional officials involved in financial irregularities. Anti-Corruption authorities are reviewing records, audit trails, and contracts managed by the municipal offices to ensure full accountability.
