The United States has temporarily closed its missions in Saudi Arabia and Iraq on Tuesday due to a deteriorating security situation following Iran’s reported counterstrikes, signaling heightened regional tensions and growing safety concerns for diplomatic personnel and citizens.

In an official statement shared on X, the US Embassy announced the cancellation of all routine and emergency American Citizen Services appointments. Authorities confirmed that shelter-in-place advisories remain active for major Saudi cities, including Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dhahran, urging American citizens to remain indoors and minimize movement until further notice.

The embassy also advised individuals to avoid visiting diplomatic facilities after reports of an attack targeting a US mission. Officials stated that access to embassy premises would remain restricted as security assessments continue. The mission further emphasized limiting non-essential travel, particularly to military installations across the region, due to potential risks linked to escalating conflict dynamics.

According to the statement, the US Mission to Saudi Arabia continues to closely monitor developments across the Middle East. Officials indicated that security conditions remain fluid, and further decisions will depend on evolving circumstances on the ground. Diplomatic staff are coordinating with regional authorities to ensure safety protocols remain effective.

American citizens currently residing or traveling in the Kingdom were strongly encouraged to review the latest security alerts and reassess travel plans in anticipation of possible disruptions. Authorities stressed the importance of staying informed through official communication channels and complying with local safety guidance.

The embassy also urged citizens to maintain a personal safety plan, highlighting that crises can develop unexpectedly while living or traveling abroad. Officials noted that preparation and awareness can help individuals respond more effectively during emergencies and reduce exposure to potential threats.

The closures reflect broader regional instability following recent military developments involving Iran and its adversaries, which have increased fears of a wider conflict. Analysts warn that diplomatic missions often adopt precautionary measures during such periods to safeguard personnel and prevent security incidents.

Further updates are expected as US officials continue evaluating the regional situation and determine when normal embassy operations can safely resume.
