Petrol, Diesel Prices in Pakistan Likely to Rise Again

Petrol and high-speed diesel prices in Pakistan are expected to rise in the upcoming fortnightly review, following an increase in global oil prices amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.

A brokerage house, Arif Habib Limited, projected that petrol could see an increase of up to Rs6.80 per liter. Current calculations suggest the price of petrol may rise by Rs5.13 per liter, bringing the new rate to approximately Rs263.30 per liter.

High-speed diesel is also expected to become more expensive, with a potential increase of Rs6.80 per liter. This would push its price to around Rs282.50 per liter.

The proposed hikes are mainly linked to a 2.7% increase in Arab Light crude oil prices in the international market. A slight rise in import spreads has further contributed to the increase in domestic fuel costs.

During the last price review, the federal government had set the rate of petrol at Rs258.17 per liter and high-speed diesel at Rs275.70 per liter. The upcoming adjustments mark a continuation of the trend reflecting global oil market volatility.

Analysts warn that persistent increases in international crude prices could continue to affect domestic fuel prices, impacting transportation costs and the general economy.
