Curious About Pakistan’s Rare Lunar Eclipse During Ramadan

Pakistan is set to witness a Lunar Eclipse during the holy month of Ramadan on March 3, 2026, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). This rare celestial event, also called a “Blood Moon”, occurs when the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow on the lunar surface.

During the total phase of the Lunar Eclipse, the Moon is expected to turn reddish. This happens because sunlight passing through Earth’s atmosphere bends toward the Moon. Shorter blue wavelengths are scattered, allowing longer red wavelengths to reach the Moon’s surface.

The PMD has provided a detailed schedule for the event. The Lunar Eclipse will begin at 1:44 pm PST, with the partial phase starting at 2:50 pm. The total eclipse will commence at 4:05 pm, reach its peak at 4:34 pm, and end totality at 5:03 pm. The entire event is expected to conclude by 7:23 pm.

Officials have noted that visibility in Pakistan will be partial, as some phases occur during daylight hours. Despite this, astronomers say it remains one of the most significant astronomical events of 2026.

Globally, the Lunar Eclipse will be visible in parts of Asia, Australia, North America, South America, and other regions depending on local time and weather conditions.

This will be the only total Lunar Eclipse of 2026 and the last such event until December 31, 2028, making it a rare and highly anticipated spectacle. Skywatchers are encouraged to observe the eclipse safely, using telescopes or protective filters.
