Pakistan’s First E-Taxi Scheme Inaugurated by CM Maryam

Punjab Chief Minister CM Maryam has inaugurated Pakistan’s first E-Taxi Scheme, a project aimed at creating employment opportunities and promoting eco-friendly transport. The scheme is especially designed to support women drivers across the province.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, CM Maryam said the E-Taxi Scheme is a respectable employment initiative. She emphasized that women in Punjab can work safely and confidently alongside men. “Every daughter of Punjab is safe. Anyone who tries to harm them will face strict consequences,” she added.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the scheme will provide a monthly income of Rs150,000 to Rs200,000 for drivers. She said the Punjab government will subsidize the project with Rs4 billion and cover 50 percent of the down payment for male drivers and 60 percent for female drivers.

The first phase of the scheme will include 1,100 e-vehicles, with 30 percent of them reserved for women. Female-driven taxis will be marked with a distinct color for easy identification. The government will also pay for registration, fitness tests, and token taxes, while installments can be paid over five years.

To ensure safety, each E-Taxi will be equipped with a pink emergency button linked to the Punjab Safe City Authority. The vehicles will also operate on ride-hailing platforms like InDrive and Yango, with fast-charging stations set up at public locations. Digital payment options will also be available for passengers.

CM Maryam added that the E-Taxi Scheme is environment-friendly and supports Punjab’s efforts to reduce pollution. She also mentioned that green buses will be delivered to every tehsil, and the trackless train project will begin soon.
