Trump Claims Iran-US Talks in Doha as Tehran Denies Meeting

US President Donald Trump has claimed that officials from the United States and Iran will meet in Doha tomorrow, saying Tehran requested the meeting amid renewed diplomatic efforts between the two countries.

In a post on social media, Trump said the talks had been arranged in Qatar’s capital following recent discussions between US and Iranian officials in Burgenstock, Switzerland, after the signing of the Islamabad Understanding Memorandum.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir were also present during the Burgenstock proceedings, with Pakistan playing an active diplomatic role in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran. Pakistani officials remain optimistic that both sides could reach a broader peace agreement within the next 60 days.

However, Iran has rejected Trump’s claim, saying no negotiations with the United States are currently scheduled in Doha.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry clarified that the visit of US representatives to Qatar is unrelated to Iran and insisted that no final negotiations on a comprehensive agreement have begun.

Tehran said implementation of key provisions of the memorandum of understanding must take place before any formal negotiations can proceed.

Iranian officials also confirmed that a technical delegation will travel to Qatar this week to discuss implementation of the memorandum rather than engage in direct negotiations with US officials.

The conflicting statements from Washington and Tehran highlight continued uncertainty over the next phase of diplomatic engagement despite recent efforts to ease tensions between the two countries.
