NADRA Issues New Guidelines for Date of Birth Changes

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued fresh instructions regarding the correction or change of date of birth in official documents. The move aims to clarify procedures and ensure compliance with existing laws in Pakistan, particularly for residents of Punjab.

According to the updated guidelines, any change or correction in the date of birth recorded on a birth certificate can only be made based on a court order issued by a competent authority of the relevant Union Council, Cantonment Board, or Municipal Corporation. NADRA emphasized that this legal requirement must be strictly followed before processing any amendments.

Requests for changes in the Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC), NICOP, Child Registration Certificate, or Juvenile Card will only be accepted when accompanied by a verified computerized birth registration certificate and a formal court order. NADRA stated that this ensures all corrections are legally valid and prevents misuse of official documents.

The authority also assured citizens that it remains available to provide guidance and assistance regarding the process in accordance with the law. The policy specifically applies to cases involving computerized birth registration certificates issued in Punjab, reinforcing the importance of court authorization for any changes.
