Gold prices in Pakistan continued their upward momentum on Thursday, reflecting strong gains in international bullion markets and sustained investor demand for safe-haven assets. The latest surge highlights ongoing volatility in precious metals trading, with local traders closely monitoring global price movements and currency fluctuations influencing domestic rates.
In the local bullion market, the price of gold per tola jumped sharply by Rs7,900 in a single day, reaching Rs523,962. This significant rise followed another increase recorded earlier, when rates climbed by Rs1,300 to settle at Rs516,062, indicating a strong upward trend within a short period.
Similarly, the price of 10 grams of gold also witnessed a major increase, rising by Rs6,773 to reach Rs449,212. Dealers say such rapid daily gains reflect both international market pressure and local buying activity, as investors turn toward gold to hedge against inflation and currency depreciation concerns.
Recent price data shows fluctuations throughout February, with gold recorded at Rs523,762 on February 16 and Rs514,762 on February 17, while earlier in the month it peaked at Rs528,562. Analysts note that despite short-term dips, the broader trajectory remains upward, signaling continued bullish sentiment among traders.
In global markets, gold prices climbed by $79 per ounce, reaching $5,012 including a $20 premium. International analysts attribute the rise to heightened geopolitical uncertainty, fluctuating interest rate expectations, and persistent demand from institutional investors seeking stability amid economic unpredictability.
Silver prices also followed the upward trend, with per-tola rates increasing by Rs35 to reach Rs8,404. Market observers suggest that if global bullion prices maintain momentum, domestic precious metal rates could remain elevated in coming days, keeping buyers cautious and investors attentive to further shifts.
