New Eco-Friendly Green Electric Bus Service Launched for Citizens

The Green Electric Bus service was inaugurated in Gujar Khan on Monday, marking the first tehsil-level rollout of the project. The initiative, introduced by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aims to provide modern, eco-friendly public transport for citizens.

The ceremony was attended by Provincial Ministers Khawaja Manshaullah Butt and Bilal Akbar Khan, along with members of the National and Provincial Assemblies and district officials. The new service will operate between Gujar Khan Bus Terminal, Sohawa city, and the Police Complex, providing convenient and safe travel options.

Focus on Citizen Welfare

Khawaja Manshaullah Butt stated that the Green Electric Bus project is designed to bring modern transport facilities to the tehsil level. He highlighted the provincial government’s commitment to public welfare through initiatives like Suthra Punjab, ration cards, the Green Bus Service, and Sasta Sahulat Bazaars.

Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan added that 14 electric buses will be deployed in Gujar Khan. He noted that senior citizens, women, and students will be allowed to travel free of charge. Each bus is fitted with seven cameras to enhance passenger security and safety.

Expansion Across Punjab

The minister further revealed that Punjab plans to deploy 1,100 buses across the province this year, with an additional 1,500 buses scheduled for next year. The project is part of a broader effort to modernize public transport, reduce environmental impact, and provide affordable travel options for all residents.

The introduction of the Green Electric Bus service in Gujar Khan is seen as a major step toward sustainable urban transport in Punjab. Authorities emphasized that the project will ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly travel, while also promoting accessibility for women, students, and senior citizens.
