Punjab’s New Mega Move Along Ring Road — Big Change You Should Know

The government has approved a new industrial development plan along the Rawalpindi Ring Road project in Punjab. The decision replaces an earlier proposal for a dedicated economic zone.

Officials said the revised plan focuses on establishing an industrial estate instead of a tax-incentivized zone. The change was made due to current IMF-related policy restrictions. These conditions do not allow certain tax exemptions and incentives.

The project will now move forward after formal approval from the Punjab Assembly. Once legislation is completed, land acquisition work will begin in Punjab.

Authorities said land will be acquired and offered to industrial investors at affordable rates. The aim is to promote industrial growth and investment across Punjab. Officials believe this model will support long-term economic activity.

The industrial estate is linked to the Rawalpindi Ring Road project. The road is 38.6 kilometers long. It connects Banth Interchange on GT Road to Thalian Interchange on the motorway.

Officials said the project is in its final development phase. It is expected to be completed by mid-June under a revised Rs. 51 billion PC-I plan in Punjab.

Several key interchanges are near completion. These include Banth, Chak Beli Khan, Adiala, and Chakri interchanges. Work on the main route is also progressing steadily.

However, construction on the Thalian Interchange has been delayed. Despite this, authorities plan to open the Ring Road for traffic before full completion. Later, the National Highway Authority will complete the remaining connecting section.

The Punjab Industrial Estates Development and Management Company said the new industrial estate is a more practical alternative. It replaces the earlier economic zone proposal in Punjab.

Officials said the estate will support industrial expansion and create new investment opportunities. It is expected to improve economic activity along the corridor.

Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Usman Shaukat also supported the decision. He called it a realistic and workable plan for Punjab development.

Authorities believe the project will strengthen connectivity and boost industry. It is expected to contribute to long-term growth in Punjab once fully implemented.
