Will Government Allow Imran Khan UK Visit for Eye Treatment?

ISLAMABAD: Fresh political tensions have surfaced following reports of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s worsening eye condition, with growing speculation that he may require medical treatment abroad.

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the government would not hesitate to facilitate overseas treatment if necessary. He noted that this is the second official medical assessment of the PTI founder’s eye health.

According to a report from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Khan’s condition showed some improvement after treatment. However, the minister clarified that an earlier report circulated by lawyer Salman Safdar lacked medical credibility, as it was not issued by a healthcare professional.

Dr. Chaudhry explained that Khan began experiencing persistent blurred vision in October, which later worsened, with his right eye reportedly losing sight completely. He added that only detailed medical examinations can determine whether the damage is reversible.

Meanwhile, investigative journalist Zahid Gishkori claimed that Khan may travel to the United Kingdom in the coming months for specialized treatment. Sources indicate doctors have advised advanced care abroad, possibly by March or April, pending recommendations from a medical board and potential court approval.

Reports suggest the situation has increased pressure on the Sharif-led government, particularly amid PTI’s ongoing protest plans. Authorities now face a key decision: whether to arrange treatment locally or permit foreign medical care.

The development has triggered widespread debate, raising concerns about Khan’s health and the possibility of overseas treatment
