Punjab Govt Gives Lahore’s Basant a Surprise Twist

Get ready, Lahore! The city famous for celebrating Basant safely has been given an extended window to enjoy the festival. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that this year, rooftops can remain filled with colorful kites until 5 AM, instead of the previous midnight cutoff.

Through her social media, Maryam Nawaz praised the citizens for their disciplined celebrations, stating, “This extension is a reward for Lahoris who followed all safety SOPs and celebrated Basant responsibly.”

The festival saw rooftops buzzing with kite competitions, families enjoying food festivals, and a lively, festive atmosphere. Strict compliance with safety rules, including avoiding prohibited strings, helped protect transformers across the city, showing that fun and responsibility can coexist.

The government also ensured thorough safety measures, deploying 200 mobile clinics and 21 field hospitals across Liberty, Inner City, and other key areas. This comprehensive planning kept the festival both enjoyable and secure.

CM Maryam Nawaz further indicated that the successful “Safe Basant” model used in Lahore could soon be implemented in other cities, promoting responsible kite-flying nationwide.

So, Lahore, get your kites ready! With skies full of color and celebrations continuing into the early morning, the city is set for an extended Basant festival. Citizens are reminded to enjoy responsibly and adhere to safety guidelines for a joyful and secure experience.
