Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that the province has achieved a historic milestone by producing 12 million metric tonnes of potatoes in the current season. In a message shared on X, she highlighted that potato output has increased by 25 percent compared to last year, reflecting a significant improvement in agricultural performance across the region.
The chief minister said the Punjab government is actively working to access new international markets to promote potato exports. Efforts are underway to ensure price stability and fair returns for farmers by expanding exports to new destinations. She noted that considerable progress has been made in exporting potatoes to Kazakhstan, signaling growing opportunities for Punjab’s agricultural produce.
Maryam Nawaz also emphasized that the provincial government is coordinating closely with the federal government to implement effective measures for enhancing potato exports. In this regard, Provincial Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani is scheduled to hold important meetings in Islamabad next week.
In addition to boosting crop production and exports, the Punjab government has continued supporting farmers through the CM Punjab Green Tractor Program Phase 3. Following high demand from the farming community, the government extended the application deadline to January 31. Under this program, 10,000 tractors with 50 to 65 horsepower will be distributed among eligible farmers to improve farm productivity.
The chief minister reiterated that the government is committed to supporting farmers, ensuring fair compensation, and strengthening agricultural infrastructure. The tractor initiative, launched under the slogan “A prosperous farmer makes a prosperous Punjab,” reflects the administration’s broader focus on empowering farmers and promoting sustainable growth in the province’s agriculture sector.
With these measures, Punjab not only celebrates record-breaking potato production but also aims to secure new markets, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and continue its path toward agricultural and economic development
