Islamabad United have bolstered their coaching setup ahead of the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) by appointing former New Zealand international Jacob Oram as the franchise’s new assistant coach. The decision reflects the team’s intent to strengthen its backroom staff as preparations intensify for the upcoming season.
The appointment comes soon after Islamabad United confirmed Luke Ronchi as head coach, placing two prominent New Zealand cricket figures at the heart of the team’s coaching structure. Ronchi, a former international wicketkeeper-batter, is fondly remembered by United fans for his match-winning performances during the 2018 PSL, where he played a key role in helping the franchise secure their second league title.
Jacob Oram brings with him a wealth of international and franchise cricket experience. A former New Zealand all-rounder, Oram was known for his dependable seam bowling and powerful batting, providing balance to his side in all formats. Since retiring from international cricket, he has remained closely connected to the game through various coaching and advisory roles. Islamabad United will be hoping his expertise contributes to strategic planning, player development, and on-field decision-making throughout the season.
The move highlights a broader trend across the league, with franchises strengthening their coaching departments ahead of PSL 11. Newly added franchise Hyderabad have appointed respected cricket analyst Freddie Wilde as team analyst, while former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie will serve as head coach. Their coaching panel also features Craig White and Grant Bradburn as assistant coaches.
Meanwhile, another new team, Sialkot Stallionz, have named former Australian captain Tim Paine as head coach, adding another high-profile international name to the league’s expanding list of marquee appointments.
With coaching units now largely in place, Islamabad United and other PSL teams are expected to turn their focus toward squad building and tactical preparations as momentum builds toward the start of PSL 11.
