The Bangladesh Cricket Board has again approached the International Cricket Council (ICC) to review the venue arrangements for Bangladesh’s matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The board has raised the issue as a formal venue dispute and requested that it be referred to the ICC’s Dispute Resolution Committee. Officials at the Bangladesh Cricket Board have stated that the national team will not travel to India for the tournament due to security concerns.
BCB President Aminul Islam highlighted the importance of the World Cup for Bangladesh’s 200 million citizens. He warned that if Bangladesh is deprived of the tournament, the responsibility will lie with the ICC. Aminul Islam also pointed to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, during which India received special arrangements and played all matches in Dubai instead of Pakistan. He said that despite this precedent, the ICC rejected Bangladesh’s request to change venues.
Bangladesh is scheduled to begin its T20 World Cup campaign against Italy at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on February 9. The Bangladesh Cricket Board emphasized that the safety and security of players, staff, and fans are their primary concerns.
The board expressed hope that the ICC will reconsider its decision and provide a safe and practical solution for Bangladesh. Officials warned that a failure to resolve the venue issue could have major implications for the team and cricket fans in the country.
Analysts have noted that the dispute may impact Bangladesh’s preparation for the tournament. The ICC has not yet officially responded to the latest request from the Bangladesh Cricket Board, but discussions are expected during the upcoming committee session.
