The Punjab Traffic Police’s Driving License Branch in Multan mistakenly issued a driving license to a male applicant, Asghar Sawal, with a woman’s photograph on it.
Asghar applied for his license in 2025 after completing the required training and passing the driving test. He paid Rs. 7,000 for the process and awaited delivery, only to be shocked when the license arrived with an incorrect photo.
Living in Karachi, Asghar found it difficult to return to Multan to resolve the issue. He contacted the Multan office to report the mistake, but officials reportedly refused responsibility and demanded an additional Rs. 650 for the correction, which could take up to four months.
“I was shocked,” Asghar said. “It was their mistake, yet they want me to pay and wait months for a fix.”
The incident has raised serious concerns about data management, record-keeping, and accountability in the Punjab Traffic Police’s licensing system. Driving licenses are essential identity documents, and such errors can cause legal and administrative problems, especially during traffic checks or official verification.
