The Lahore administration has announced stringent safety and regulatory measures for the upcoming Basant festival, set to take place from February 6 to 8, 2026, aiming to ensure public safety and maintain law and order throughout the city.
Authorities will implement Section 144 across Lahore for all three days of the festival. A strict ban on kite flying has been imposed for anyone under the age of 18. Parents will be held legally accountable if minors violate this restriction, and cases will be registered under the Kite Flying Ordinance 2025. Kite flying is limited to the official three-day schedule and strictly within Lahore’s district boundaries.
The administration has made registration compulsory for kite makers, string manufacturers, sellers, and kite flying associations. Technical standards for kite-flying materials have also been established. Only cotton-based strings are allowed, while sharp manja, metallic wire, chemical-coated strings, fireworks, and aerial firing are strictly prohibited. Violators will face cancellation of registration and legal action.
To improve road safety during Basant, authorities will distribute motorcycle safety rods and wires at 100 designated camps. Traffic officials will also restrict the movement of motorcycles without proper safety equipment and offer free rides on 23 key routes during the festival.
