A strong earthquake struck parts of Pakistan early on Friday, causing tremors across multiple cities. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale and originated at a depth of 159 kilometers near the Tajikistan-Xinjiang border.

The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a slightly different magnitude of 5.3, with the quake occurring at a depth of 140 kilometers in Tajikistan. The United States Geological Survey confirmed that Pakistan, Tajikistan, China, and Afghanistan were among the affected countries.

In Pakistan, the tremors were felt in Islamabad and several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Residents reported shaking buildings and rattling windows, though there were no immediate reports of casualties or serious damage. Local authorities urged people to stay calm and follow safety measures while the situation was being monitored.

Pakistan lies at the intersection of three major tectonic plates — the Arabian, Euro-Asian, and Indian plates. The presence of multiple fault lines makes the region prone to frequent earthquake activity. Experts say tectonic movements in these zones can produce earthquakes of varying intensity at any time.

Recent history shows a pattern of seismic activity across the country. In October 2025, a 3.2-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Karachi, while a 5.5-magnitude quake shook parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a month earlier. These incidents highlight the importance of earthquake preparation in the region.

Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity closely. Emergency services in affected areas remain on alert to respond to any incidents. Residents have been advised to avoid tall buildings and stay away from loose structures until the tremors fully subside.

While the earthquake caused momentary alarm, Pakistan has yet to report significant damage or injuries. Experts emphasize that minor tremors can still indicate stress along fault lines, and the public should remain vigilant.

moderate earthquake was recently felt in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, raising concern among residents. Stay updated with all recent tremors, including the latest earthquake jolts multiple cities in Pakistan.

The recent earthquake serves as a reminder of the natural risks facing Pakistan. Government agencies and local authorities continue to strengthen early warning systems and public awareness campaigns to reduce risks from future seismic events.
