Washington, D.C. — U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Venezuela’s new acting president, saying a second Venezuela strike is possible if the interim government does not fully cooperate with American demands. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump underscored U.S. expectations for compliance following the dramatic capture of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Trump said that the United States might launch another military intervention in Venezuela unless remaining elements of Maduro’s regime work with Washington to “fix” the crisis in Caracas. Maduro is currently in a U.S. detention center in New York and is due to appear in court on drug trafficking and narco-terrorism charges.
Venezuela’s Supreme Court-backed interim leader, Delcy Rodríguez, has taken over formal duties but publicly rejected U.S. control, insisting that Maduro remains the legitimate president. Rodríguez’s defiance has sharply increased tensions and raised questions about the feasibility of cooperation.
In his remarks, Trump also signaled that other nations in the region could face pressure if they do not align with U.S. policy, including Colombia, Cuba, and Mexico. This echoes broader comments made by the president in recent days about diplomatic and strategic engagement across Latin America.
