Islamabad, April 26, 2025: The 18th Degree Awarding Ceremony of Hamdard University Islamabad Campus was held on Saturday. The esteemed guest of honor was Mr. Zamarud Khan, who was invited to address the gathering.
Chief Guest: Mr. Zamarud Khan (Hilal-e-Imtiaz)
Renowned social worker and former Managing Director of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, Zamarud Khan, addressed the 18th Convocation Ceremony of Hamdard University as the chief guest. In his inspiring speech, he urged graduating students to turn their knowledge into a means of service rather than pride. He emphasized that this milestone marks not an end, but the beginning of a new journey.
Sharing reflections from his own life, including his courageous act during the 2013 hostage incident in Islamabad, Zamrud Khan highlighted the importance of selflessness and courage born from true awareness. He called on the youth to answer the silent calls of the nation’s schools, hospitals, and orphanages with their talent and dedication.
Praising Hamdard University for producing graduates of both professional excellence and high moral values, he congratulated the administration, faculty, parents, and students on the momentous occasion and wished them success and greatness in their future endeavors.
Chancellor Madam Sadia Rashid
On this occasion, the President of Hamdard Foundation and Chancellor of Hamdard University, Madam Sadia Rashid, welcomed all distinguished guests, parents, faculty members, and students in her special address. She remarked that the presidential award of Hilal-e-Imtiaz she received was the result of collective efforts, and she dedicated this honor to all her colleagues.
She expressed gratitude to the entire institutional team for advancing the mission of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said and said that the educational seeds he had sown had borne fruit today. She credited the success to the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor and the insight of the faculty.
Congratulating the graduates, Madam Sadia Rashid emphasized that today marks the beginning of their professional lives. A degree is not just a paper certificate; it is a symbol of intellectual elevation, mental maturity, and self-reliance. She urged the youth to become embodiments of knowledge and action, prioritize national and collective interests, and play a significant role in Pakistan’s development.
Concluding her address, she quoted the thoughts of Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam, stressing the importance of believing in oneself and in God, and becoming a person of action. She prayed that Allah may keep the minds and hearts of these future leaders bright and enlightened.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shabib Ul Hasan
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Shabib Ul Hasan, in his address stated that Hamdard University currently offers nearly 35 different academic programs, including BS, MS, and PhD, across its campuses in Karachi and Islamabad. The Islamabad campus alone has about 3,000 students enrolled. He emphasized that the university’s goal is not only to provide quality education but also to raise research standards globally, train skilled individuals, and foster responsible citizens.
He further noted that Hamdard University is a non-profit institution dedicated to serving Pakistan, with tuition fees being relatively lower compared to other private institutions. Additionally, the university offers merit scholarships, relationship scholarships, and financial aid based on need.
The Vice Chancellor also highlighted the university’s modern teaching methods, sustainable development goals, and efforts to reduce environmental pollution. He appealed to the government and Higher Education Commission for financial assistance to address challenges like inflation and resource constraints, which would help enhance the university’s global reputation.
Finally, he expressed his gratitude to the parents, faculty, and staff, stating that this is just the beginning of their success and that greater achievements await in the coming years. He congratulated the students for their hard work and determination and encouraged them to use their knowledge for the betterment of the nation.
Director-General Mr. Imtiaz Haider
The Director-General of Hamdard University Islamabad Campus, Mr. Imtiaz Haider, addressed the gathering, stating that today marks the culmination of the students’ relentless hard work, the blessings of their parents, and the sincere efforts of their teachers. This day not only celebrates success but also reminds us of the teachings and vision of our founder, Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said.
Mr. Imtiaz Haider further stated that Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said was a visionary who regarded education as a means of serving humanity. His belief was that education was not merely the acquisition of knowledge but also a tool for character building, ethics, and social welfare. Hamdard University continues to provide holistic, balanced, and virtuous education in alignment with these principles.
He mentioned that the Islamabad Campus currently offers more than 35 academic programs across six faculties, with over 3,000 students enrolled. The campus provides various facilities, including career counseling, wellness centers, student facilitation centers, daycare, international office, quality enhancement cell, and research, innovation, and commercialization offices, to support both personal and professional development for students.
The ceremony also highlighted the university’s international affiliations, such as with IEEE, and its national projects funded by institutions like Ignite. A recent international conference organized by the university is a testament to its global vision.
Mr. Imtiaz Haider emphasized the need to connect the curriculum to real life, provide experiential learning opportunities, and inspire students to choose “a good life” over simply “a life full of things.”
In conclusion, he paid tribute to Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said, reaffirming that Hamdard University Islamabad Campus would continue to operate in line with his vision, focusing on education, research, and training in all fields, upholding principles of innovation, ethics, and service to humanity.
Annual Report
Mr. Imtiaz Haider, Director-General of Hamdard University Islamabad Campus, presented the annual report during the ceremony, announcing that a total of 390 students were being awarded degrees today. These included 65 degrees from the Faculty of Management Sciences, 126 degrees from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, 147 degrees from the Faculty of Pharmacy, and 52 degrees from the Faculty of Social Sciences. Among them, 326 were undergraduate degrees, 63 graduate degrees, and 1 postgraduate degree.
