Karachi Police Book Female Sub‑Inspector Urooj Over Alleged Flat Grabbing

In a developing case highlighting alleged abuse of influence by law enforcement personnel, Model Colony police have registered an FIR against woman Sub‑Inspector Urooj, her husband Danish, and her brother Huzaifa over an alleged attempt to illegally grab a flat in Karachi. The incident has reignited public debate about property rights and misuse of power by officials.

According to the FIR lodged by Ansar Ahmed, the administrative manager of the residential building, the accused were residing in the flat as tenants for about a year but refused to vacate the premises despite repeated eviction notices. The complaint states that on December 4, when Ahmed was present in the parking area with a security guard, the accused arrived with armed police personnel, allegedly assaulted him and the guard, issued death threats, and forcefully took possession of the flat. Police confirmed the FIR includes sections related to unlawful occupation, threats, and physical assault.

The complainant has urged authorities to take strict legal action against the sub‑inspector and her alleged accomplices as the investigation continues. Police officials said further probe will involve examining contractual documents, witness statements, and security footage to establish the sequence of events and accountability.

Property disputes and alleged illegal takeovers have been a recurring concern in Karachi and other major cities, prompting legal reforms. Recently, the Punjab Property Ordinance 2025 was introduced to target land grabbers and curb illegal occupation of property by influential individuals.

Earlier in Karachi’s Gulshan‑e‑Iqbal area, residents secured a stay order from a local court against another alleged house grabbing attempt in Block 13D. In that case, occupants claimed to be lawful owners and resisted an eviction attempt involving police and court officials, with neighbours confronting the situation and suspects reportedly opening fire during the standoff — an episode that stoked fear across the neighbourhood.

The booking of Woman Sub‑Inspector Urooj in Karachi flat grabbing case comes at a time when calls for transparency and accountability within law enforcement ranks are rising. Legal experts and civil society figures say swift action and fair investigation are essential to uphold property rights and public trust in the police.
