Khunjerab Pass

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]According to a local political leader, Chinese authorities have also agreed to relax restrictions on the import of several Pakistani items.

Khunjerab Pass reopened in April of this year after being closed for nearly three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The pass connects Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan with China’s Xinjiang, the Uyghur autonomous region, which was closed in 2020 due to the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak.

According to an agreement, trade and travel activities between the two countries through the Khunjerab Pass begin on April 1 and end on November 30, with a daily bus service from Gilgit-Baltistan’s Sost Valley to China’s Xinjiang province.

This arrangement, which had been in place under the CPEC framework since November 2016, had to be terminated in November 2019 as part of the Coronavirus containment measures.

As the situation improved, there was an increasing demand from the people of Great Britain to reopen the border point for both travel and trade, as the closure had rendered thousands of people jobless; according to some estimates, approximately 70% of the local population relied on border trade for a living.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
