Waqar Younis, the former Pakistan fast bowler and current commentator in India for the 2023 World Cup, expressed his dissatisfaction with Shaheen Afridi’s performance in the tournament. According to insider sources, Waqar Younis conveyed his concerns on a local sports channel, emphasizing that the key element missing in Shaheen’s bowling is discipline.

Waqar raised questions about Shaheen’s fitness but identified the primary issue in his bowling as a lack of discipline, suggesting that he may be trying too hard to take wickets. Waqar recommended that Shaheen take a page from the book of Jasprit Bumrah, whom he hailed as an exceptional bowler. He noted that Bumrah effectively builds pressure with his line, consistently targeting the off stump, and demonstrated this in his performance against Pakistan by creating pressure to secure wickets.

It’s important to highlight that Shaheen Afridi played a crucial role as Pakistan’s new-ball spearhead in the previous World Cup, where he claimed 16 wickets in five matches in England four years ago. However, in the current tournament, Shaheen has been facing challenges related to his pace and physical condition, managing to secure just four wickets at the cost of 139 runs in three matches.

In their recent World Cup fixtures, Pakistan secured victories against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka but suffered a loss against India in their third match. The Pakistan cricket team, often referred to as the Men in Green, is scheduled to face Australia in Bengaluru this Friday.
