According to the 56-page indictment filed by special counsel David Weiss in a US district court in California, Hunter Biden is accused of participating in a four-year scheme to evade payment of at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes for tax years 2016 through 2019.
The charges against him include nine counts related to failing to file and pay taxes, tax evasion, and filing false tax returns.
These latest charges present additional challenges for President Joe Biden, who is currently navigating a challenging re-election campaign and grappling with a Republican attempt to impeach him based on allegations that he benefited from his son’s international business dealings.

Previous charges against Hunter Biden accused him of providing false information about his drug use when purchasing a gun. With these new charges, Hunter Biden could potentially face two separate trials next year.
Despite his son’s legal troubles, President Biden has publicly stated that he stands by Hunter. The indictment reveals that Hunter Biden earned over $7 million between 2016 and 2020, using the funds for an extravagant lifestyle.
The document states that during this period, he spent money on drugs, escorts, luxury hotels, rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and various personal items, all while neglecting to fulfill his tax obligations.
Hunter Biden, who pleaded not guilty earlier this year to charges related to his gun purchase in 2018, has not been charged in connection with his foreign business dealings, despite Republican assertions of a Biden family criminal conspiracy.
In July, a proposed plea bargain, which involved Hunter pleading guilty to two tax charges in exchange for dropping the gun charges, collapsed.
Hunter Biden’s tumultuous life, marked by struggles with alcoholism and crack cocaine addiction, contrasts with his background as a Yale-trained lawyer and lobbyist turned artist.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
