Unwanted Record Set By Haris Rauf In World Cup Match

In the thrilling ODI World Cup 2023 encounter between Pakistan and Australia, Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf found himself in an unenviable position as he became the subject of a remarkable record. Faced with a relentless onslaught from Australian batsmen, Rauf gave away 50 runs in a mere 21 deliveries, setting a new record for the quickest ‘half-century’ ever by a bowler in the history of the World Cup.

This remarkable achievement broke the previous record, which was jointly held by Ian Butchart of Zimbabwe, who achieved it against New Zealand in 1992, and Australia’s Mitchell Johnson, who accomplished a similar feat against New Zealand in 2015.

It’s worth noting that Haris Rauf’s 50-run over also earned him a place in the record books for all men’s ODIs. However, the overall record for the worst bowling performance still belongs to Ravi Rampaul, who managed an astonishing 17-ball over against New Zealand in a rain-affected match in Queenstown back in 2014.

In this match, Australian batsmen launched a fierce assault, accumulating a formidable total of 367 runs, presenting Pakistan with a daunting target to chase, which they ultimately failed to achieve.
