[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Because of the overwhelming popularity of SUVs, as well as the ongoing chip shortage, automakers are abandoning less popular cars, even if some of these are household names. The most recent example is the Toyota Camry.

Don’t worry, the Japanese midsize sedan is secure in this location. According to a Nikkei Asia report, production for its domestic market will end at the end of this year. Most dealers have already stopped taking new orders.

Since its introduction in Japan in 1980, approximately 1.3 million Camrys have been sold. While this may seem like a lot, consider this: Toyota has sold over 13 million units in the United States alone. Japan accounted for less than 1% of global Camry sales last year.

Despite its demise in its home market, the Camry will continue to be manufactured for other markets where it is more successful. North America is one, but we don’t know how long it will be. Camry sales in Canada fell 14% in 2022.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
