Abdul Aleem Khan, the Federal Minister for Communications, recently chaired a high-level meeting with the National Highway Authority (NHA), where he outlined several key initiatives aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s road infrastructure. One of the primary directives from Minister Khan was to initiate an assessment and expansion plan for the Sialkot-Rawalpindi Motorway, proposing an increase from four lanes to six lanes to accommodate future traffic demands effectively.
During the meeting, Minister Khan underscored the importance of barrier-free motorways for smooth traffic flow and emphasized the strategic significance of highways in bolstering economic growth. He stressed the need to inform the public about these infrastructure improvements through various media channels to ensure transparency and public awareness.

The discussions also encompassed several NHA projects across Balochistan, Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan, focusing on constructing roads that support economic activities and can accommodate projected population growth in the future. Minister Khan directed the installation of live cameras at all NHA construction sites to enable real-time surveillance and called for third-party audits of maintenance projects to optimize the utilization of government funds. Furthermore, Minister Khan highlighted the ongoing development of the N25 expressway in Balochistan and proposed collaboration with the Gilgit-Baltistan government to address communication challenges effectively.
Regarding international connectivity, the Minister emphasized the construction of highways linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and stressed the inclusion of these projects in a comprehensive reporting system for the Prime Minister. Additionally, he requested a feasibility analysis to identify the shortest routes to Central Asian countries, aiming to enhance future connectivity and economic potential for Pakistan. These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment under Minister Abdul Aleem Khan’s leadership to modernize Pakistan’s infrastructure network, improve connectivity domestically and internationally, and stimulate economic growth through strategic road development projects.
