The Sutlej River has reached dngerous flood levels, causing widespread destruction in Kasur district, Punjab. Over 72 villages have been submerged after the river overflowed its banks. Water has entered homes and farmlands, forcing thousands of people to flee.
The floodwaters also breached protective embankments in several areas, including Bheri Pir. According to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the water flow at Head Ganda Singh barrage has risen sharply to 253,000 cusecs. The current water level has reached 22.99 feet.
Authorities have issued a high alert as more water is expected to flow into the Sutlej River. Rescue teams, including police, revenue officials, and volunteers, worked through the night to help stranded families. Many affected residents are now taking shelter under open skies, having lost access to their homes.
Military personnel have also been deployed to support the rescue and relief operations. Boats and other emergency equipment are being used to evacuate people from flooded areas. Medical teams and food supplies are being sent to temporary camps set up for displaced families.
The Deputy Commissioner of Kasur stated that the administration is fully active and helping all those in need. He assured the public that no one will be left alone during this crisis.
