Social Media Platform X Remains Blocked in Pakistan Amid Failed Negotiations

The restoration of social media platform X in Pakistan remains uncertain, as discussions between the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the platform’s foreign management have yet to yield a breakthrough. According to sources, PTA has opted not to restore the service without explicit directives from the government or the courts.

PTA officials confirmed that X has consistently refused to register in Pakistan or comply with local regulations, despite numerous exchanges. The platform’s refusal to align its policies with Pakistani laws has created a deadlock, hindering any progress toward reinstating the service.

X was officially blocked on February 17, 2024, following directives from the Ministry of Interior, which cited concerns over illegal content. The platform’s failure to remove or block such content, along with its refusal to file a formal appeal, has only added to the ongoing stalemate.

PTA further clarified that the Ministry of Interior has yet to issue any instructions regarding the platform’s restoration, leaving its future in Pakistan unclear.
