The vampire thriller Sinners has made Oscars history by receiving a record 16 nominations, positioning it as a top contender for Best Picture. The film also sets up a thrilling Best Actor race between Michael B. Jordan, Timothée Chalamet, and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Produced by Warner Bros, Sinners celebrates blues music and Black culture in the segregation-era American South. It will compete for Best Picture against One Battle After Another, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, Bugonia, F1, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, and Train Dreams.
The previous record for the most nominations, 14, was held by All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land. This year, the Oscars nominations include diverse genres, from historical dramas to supernatural thrillers, reflecting the Academy’s increasing embrace of unconventional storytelling.
Michael B. Jordan earned a Best Actor nomination for his dual role as twin brothers who open a juke joint in 1930s Mississippi, leading to violent clashes between gangsters and vampires. The film also received nods for director Ryan Coogler, supporting actors Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku, cinematography, costume design, visual effects, and original screenplay.
Jordan faces competition from Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, which received 13 nominations, and Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme. Paul Thomas Anderson earned a directing nod for One Battle After Another, while Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, and Teyana Taylor were nominated in supporting roles.
In Best Actress, Jessie Buckley was nominated for her role in Hamnet, portraying Shakespeare’s wife, and Kate Hudson received a nod for Song Sung Blue. Chloé Zhao also earned a directing nomination for Hamnet.
International nominations include Tunisian film The Voice of Hind Rajab and Iranian thriller It Was Just an Accident.

The Oscars ceremony will be held on March 15, broadcast on ABC, and streamed on Hulu. Comedian Conan O’Brien will host for the second consecutive year. Warner Bros Discovery led all studios with 30 nominations, while Netflix earned nods for Frankenstein and Train Dreams.
