Sindh Women Can Now Pray in Mosques

This initiative, geared towards cultivating a more inclusive environment for female worshippers, was formulated during a meeting chaired by Umar Soomro, Sindh’s Minister for Law and Auqaf.

The meeting, conducted under the auspices of the Department of Auqaf, primarily centered on the registration of mosques and madrasas across the province.

A detailed presentation was delivered during this session, outlining the new policy of allocating specific zones within mosques for women. This action is widely recognized as a significant stride towards ensuring that women enjoy equal opportunities for engaging in religious practices within their communities.

Umar Soomro, the Provincial Minister for Auqaf, disclosed that this initiative would be enforced in 77 mosques falling under the jurisdiction of the Department of Auqaf. He underscored the importance of this decision in advancing gender equality and fostering inclusivity within religious spaces.

To garner widespread awareness and acceptance of this novel policy, the Department of Auqaf intends to launch an extensive awareness campaign.

This multilingual campaign, encompassing English, Urdu, Sindhi, and Gujarati, aims to reach a diverse audience throughout the province.

Furthermore, Minister Soomro emphasized the necessity of efficient data collection regarding the status of mosques in the region. He called for an expedited process to compile comprehensive information on both registered and unregistered mosques.

This data holds paramount significance for the successful implementation of the policy and for future planning and development of religious spaces in Sindh.
