Sheikh Rashid Released From Adiala Jail Post-Bail

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the chief of Awami Muslim League (AML), was released from Adiala Jail following the grant of bail by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi regarding a case related to the May 9 riots.

The judge approved the bail, requiring surety bonds worth Rs200,000. During the hearing, the trial court directed the authorities to release Sheikh Rashid immediately unless he was wanted in any other case. The proceedings were attended by Sheikh Rashid’s lawyer, while no representation from the prosecution side was observed. The judge expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of the prosecution lawyer.

Addressing the media outside the jail, the former interior minister stated that his detention had hindered his ability to conduct his election campaign effectively.

In the meantime, during the general elections held on February 8, Hanif Abbasi, the candidate from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), emerged victorious over Sheikh Rashid in the NA-56 constituency in the electoral contest of 2024.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
