Senators' salaries raised to Rs519,000

The Senate Finance Committee has approved a salary increase for senators, raising their monthly earnings to Rs519,000, effective January 1. However, the salaries of the Senate chairman and deputy chairman will remain unchanged.

The decision was made during a meeting at Parliament House, chaired by Acting Senate Chairman Syedal Khan Nasir. Attending members included Saleem Mandviwala, Shahadat Awan, and Senator Liaquat Khan, while opposition leader Shibli Faraz and Maulana Attaur Rehman were absent.

Following the meeting, Senator Saleem Mandviwala confirmed the salary adjustment in an interview with Samaa TV. He stated that the raise aligns with the National Assembly’s decision, ensuring senators receive salaries equivalent to National Assembly members.

“The increase has been approved under the act passed by parliament and will take effect from January 1,” Mandviwala explained.
