A retired army major was kidnapped on Saturday from the Defence Housing Authority and released after 14 hours in captivity in North Nazimabad. According to DIG-South Syed Asad Raza, Major Ahmed Waseem was taken around 12:25 p.m. near Bilal Masjid by three individuals in a white car.

The abduction was reportedly orchestrated by the victim’s nephew, Muhammad Noorul Ain Qazi, who coordinated with accomplices and the victim’s family to demand ransom. Qazi’s involvement indicates a deeper familial betrayal, complicating the case further.

A joint team of police, the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), and an intelligence agency tracked down Qazi’s location in Nazimabad-3. However, by the time they arrived, Qazi and his wife had already fled the scene, highlighting the challenges in apprehending the kidnappers.

Approximately half an hour later, the kidnappers released Major Waseem in North Nazimabad, where he managed to contact his family with assistance from a taxi driver. He was subsequently taken to the Hyderi Market police station to reunite with his family and the investigation team.

DIG Raza noted that Qazi had a criminal history, including two FIRs registered against him at local police stations, and had been released from prison a few months earlier. While Major Waseem was not physically harmed during his ordeal, he experienced significant mental stress, enduring the entire 14 hours with his hands tied. As of now, no arrests have been made.
