The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a new spell of rain and thunderstorms in several upper parts of the country. According to the Met Office, a fresh westerly wave is expected to enter northwestern regions on May 10 and may remain active until the night of May 12.

Officials said the changing weather system could bring dust storms, strong winds, and rain to many cities and mountainous areas. The expected rain may provide relief from rising temperatures in upper regions of Pakistan.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain and thunderstorms are likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Balakot, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Peshawar, Bajaur, Mohmand, Orakzai, Khyber, Kohat, Kurram, Hangu, and Karak.

The weather department warned that some areas may experience heavy winds along with rain during the forecast period. Authorities advised people to remain careful during thunderstorms and avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas.

Several districts of Punjab and Islamabad are also expected to receive rain from the evening of May 10 until May 12. The affected areas include Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Khushab, Joharabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Narowal.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain with thunderstorms is likely in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Guanche, and Shigar. Weather officials said mountain areas may receive stronger weather activity during this period.

Meanwhile, different regions of Azad Kashmir are expected to receive rain between May 11 and May 13 with occasional gaps. These areas include Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.

The Met Office stated that the upcoming rain spell may lower temperatures in upper parts of the country. However, hot and dry weather is expected to continue in southern areas, including south Punjab, Sindh, and parts of Balochistan.
