Punjab Introduces Online Platform For Firearm Licenses

The caretaker government of Punjab, led by Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, has achieved a significant milestone in its efforts to combat corruption. The administration has introduced a transformative change in the issuance of arms licenses, shifting the process to an online platform for enhanced transparency.

This initiative, known as the Punjab Arms License Management System (PALMS), is a result of collaboration between the provincial Home Department and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi formally inaugurated the PALMS portal, marking a critical step towards modernizing and streamlining the arms licensing process.

PALMS not only facilitates the issuance of new arms licenses but also enables the online renewal of existing licenses across the entire province of Punjab. Additionally, the system provides a user-friendly platform for the online transfer of licenses to heirs, simplifying the procedural aspects for applicants.

One notable feature of PALMS is the option for applicants to receive their licenses at their doorstep. This innovative approach enhances convenience for individuals seeking arms licenses while aligning with broader efforts to leverage technology for improved governance.

Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed confidence in the complete eradication of corruption in the arms license issuance process through the implementation of PALMS. He commended the efforts of Home Secretary Mian Shakeel Ahmed and Additional Secretary Home (Judicial) Department Farwa Aamir, acknowledging their significant contributions to the successful launch of the online portal.

The Chief Minister also praised the effective execution of the automatic system for issuing arms licenses. The formal agreement for this initiative was signed by the Interior Secretary of the Government of Punjab and the Director General of NADRA.

Key officials, including the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Director General of NADRA Sohail Jahangir, Director Arms at NADRA, and other relevant authorities, were present at the inaugural event. Their presence underscored the collaborative nature of this endeavor and the commitment of various stakeholders to embrace technological advancements for governance improvement.

By leveraging digital platforms and automated processes, the caretaker government of Punjab aims not only to enhance efficiency but also to instill trust and transparency in the arms licensing system. The move towards online services aligns with broader initiatives to modernize administrative processes, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and foster a more responsive and accountable government.

In summary, the launch of PALMS signifies a noteworthy step forward in the quest for good governance in Punjab. This online portal reflects the caretaker government’s commitment to leveraging technology for the benefit of the public, ensuring that essential services are delivered with efficiency and integrity.
