With the end of the summer vacation period approaching, uncertainty is growing across Sindh as parents, students, and school administrations await an official decision on whether the provincial government will extend the holidays due to expected hot and humid weather in August.
The Sindh government had earlier announced summer vacations for all public and private educational institutions from June 1 to July 31, 2026. Under the current academic calendar, schools are scheduled to reopen on August 1, 2026, marking the start of the 2026–27 academic session.
As the reopening date nears, concerns have increased following weather forecasts predicting continued high temperatures and humidity across the province. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has indicated that hot and humid conditions are likely to persist throughout August, raising concerns about students’ health and safety.
The weather is expected to be particularly challenging in Karachi and other coastal districts, where high humidity could make temperatures feel significantly hotter. Health experts often warn that such conditions increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially among children.
Meteorologists have also forecast monsoon rainfall in several parts of Sindh during August. Heavy rain could disrupt transportation, cause urban flooding in low-lying areas, and create additional difficulties for students, parents, and educational institutions returning after the summer break.
Despite growing speculation on social media, the Sindh Education Department has not issued any official notification regarding an extension of the summer vacations. Officials have so far given no indication that the academic calendar will be revised, and schools are currently expected to reopen as scheduled on August 1.
The provincial government adopted a similar approach last year by reopening schools according to the announced academic calendar despite seasonal heat. At present, there is no official confirmation that this year’s schedule will be changed.
Parents, students, and school administrations are advised to rely only on official announcements from the Sindh Education Department, as any decision regarding an extension of summer vacations will be communicated through a formal notification.
