Pakistan Restricts Firearm Sales In Significant Control Measure

ISLAMABAD – The federal government has implemented a nationwide restriction on the sale of firearms, excluding those from the Pakistan Ordinance Factory (POF).

According to a notification from the interior ministry, receipts from dealers, excluding those from the Pakistan Ordinance Factory, will now be considered invalid for arms transactions, as specified in the directive.

The notification emphasizes that dealer receipts are no longer acceptable, and arms dealers are prohibited from dealing in banned bore weapons.

The government asserts that individuals holding weapons are obligated to procure arms exclusively from the POF, and any acquisition from other dealers will render the transaction ineligible for an arms license.

Pakistan, known for its high rate of gun ownership, has been associated with a significant level of gun violence. Illegal weapons frequently contribute to criminal activities, fostering an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.

While authorities are implementing stringent measures to address the weapons issue, these efforts have proven largely ineffective.
