Citizens applying for driving licences in Lahore can now benefit from a new facility introduced by the traffic authorities. Free centres have been established at government hospitals across the city to provide a Medical Fitness Certificate without any charges.
According to the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, applicants can obtain their required Medical Fitness Certificate from designated public hospitals free of cost. The initiative aims to make the licence application process easier and more accessible for residents.
In the first phase, authorities have set up free fitness certificate centres at 13 government hospitals. Dedicated medical counters have already been established to serve applicants efficiently. These hospitals include DHQ Mian Mir Hospital, DHQ Mozang, General Hospital Ghaziabad, and Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Sabzazar.
The facility is also available at government hospitals located in Samanabad, Qila Gujjar Singh, Shahdara, Bilal Ganj, Sodiwal, Kahna, Raiwind, and Swami Nagar. Residents can visit these centres to complete the required medical assessment before applying for certain driving licences.
Officials stated that a Medical Fitness Certificate is mandatory for individuals applying for commercial driving licences. It is also required for applicants aged 50 years and above. The certificate helps ensure that drivers meet the necessary health standards before receiving a licence.
Authorities have also announced plans to introduce a digital verification system for medical certificates. The move is intended to prevent the use of fake or fraudulent documents during the licence application process.
According to officials, online verification will improve transparency in the system. It will also strengthen accountability and make the licence issuance process more reliable. The digital system is expected to help authorities verify certificates quickly and accurately.
The initiative is being viewed as a positive step for citizens who previously had to bear additional costs for obtaining medical certificates. By offering the service free of charge at government hospitals, the authorities aim to provide greater convenience while ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
