The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) has announced the complete suspension of the Multan Metro Bus Service and all associated feeder routes on Monday, June 22, 2026. The decision has been taken as part of security and traffic management measures for the observance of 6th Muharram-ul-Haram across the city.
According to PMTA officials, metro bus operations will remain closed throughout the entire day. The authority clarified that no partial service or limited operations will be available during the suspension period, and all metro bus activities will remain halted until further notice after the day’s religious events conclude.
The authority urged commuters and regular passengers to make alternative travel arrangements in advance to avoid inconvenience. Thousands of residents rely on the Metro Bus and feeder routes daily for travel to educational institutions, workplaces, markets, and other destinations across Multan.
The Multan Metrobus Service serves as one of the city’s key public transport systems. The network operates along an 18.5-kilometre corridor, connecting the Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Terminal with the Kumharanwala Chowk Terminal. The route links several major residential, educational, and commercial areas, making it an important transport facility for local residents.
Authorities often implement special traffic and transport plans during Muharram to ensure the safety of participants and the smooth conduct of religious gatherings. The suspension of public transport services on certain routes is part of broader security measures adopted during the holy month.
Muharram processions are held across Pakistan every year to commemorate the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions. Security agencies and local administrations coordinate extensively to manage traffic, maintain law and order, and facilitate mourners participating in religious events throughout the country.
