The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has set new tuition fee limits for medical and dental colleges across the country. Fees for students will now range between Rs1.8 million and Rs2.1 million, applying equally to all years from the academic session 2024-25.
A private medical college in Islamabad now has the highest fee, set at Rs2,147,000. The fee increase applies to 19 major medical colleges approved by the PMDC.
The council rejected fee increase requests from 20 other private colleges due to missing audit reports. These colleges will retain the previous session’s fee of Rs1.8 million, while the current year’s fee remains at Rs1.89 million.
The PMDC emphasized that no college is allowed to charge more than the approved fee. Institutions violating this rule will face a fine of Rs2 million and potential suspension of registration.
In addition, the PMDC directed that any excess fees already collected must be returned to students within one month. This step ensures fairness and protects students from overcharging.
Officials said the new fee structure is part of broader efforts by the PMDC to regulate private medical education and maintain transparency. The council will monitor colleges closely to ensure compliance with the approved limits.
The PMDC’s decision provides clarity for students and parents and prevents arbitrary fee increases by private institutions. Students are encouraged to report any violations to the council for corrective action.
