PMDC Gains WFME Recognition, Benefiting Doctors

In a significant development that holds positive implications for Pakistani doctors and aspiring medical professionals, the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) has achieved accreditation from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). This accreditation is expected to facilitate Pakistani medical graduates in pursuing postgraduate training and practicing medicine in foreign countries more seamlessly.

For Pakistani medical professionals, this accreditation represents a valuable opportunity, providing them with enhanced avenues for advancing their postgraduate studies and practicing medicine beyond the borders of Pakistan.

The PM&DC has highlighted that the recognition from WFME underscores the regulatory authority’s unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of medical education within Pakistan. This acknowledgment is particularly noteworthy as it signifies a commendable achievement, granted for a duration of 10 years. Importantly, this development has now paved the way for all Pakistani students to apply for the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) exams.

With WFME recognition in place, doctors from Pakistan will gain the opportunity to pursue advanced training and engage in professional practice in countries like the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Recognition by WFME is a prerequisite for medical professionals from developing countries seeking opportunities in these first-world nations.

Officials from the PM&DC have emphasized their commitment to elevating medical education standards within the country. This achievement, they believe, not only creates new prospects for collaboration but also ensures that Pakistani medical graduates are well-prepared to meet global healthcare standards.

The members of the regulatory body have expressed gratitude to all the teams and individuals involved in this accomplishment. The Minister of Health, NHS&C Secretary Health, Surgeon General, PM&DC Council members, and the International Consultant on Collaboration and Recognition were acknowledged for their collective efforts in securing this accreditation for Pakistan. The collaborative engagement of these entities has played a crucial role in bringing about this recognition, which holds immense significance for the medical community in Pakistan and its ability to contribute to global healthcare practices.
