The Balochistan government has imposed a ban on pillion riding across the province until November 30, citing security concerns ahead of key national events. The step was taken under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code to maintain law and order during the sensitive period.
According to the notification issued by the provincial Home Department, the ban on pillion riding applies to all districts of Balochistan. However, women, children, senior citizens, and law enforcement personnel are exempt from the restriction. The government said the decision was made after reviewing intelligence reports indicating possible threats to public safety.
The pillion riding ban in Balochistan is not new, as similar restrictions are often enforced during national days, major political gatherings, or heightened security alerts. Officials said the temporary ban aims to prevent the misuse of motorcycles in criminal and terrorist activities, a common tactic in the region.
This decision follows a series of coordinated security operations in the province. In a recent joint operation, two Karachi-based transporters were safely rescued in Balochistan after being kidnapped during a goods delivery trip. The report highlighted that law enforcement agencies are on high alert, ensuring the safety of transporters, commuters, and traders moving through interprovincial routes.
Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with security personnel and avoid unnecessary travel during this period. The government also instructed law enforcement units to ensure that the pillion riding ban in Balochistan is implemented without inconvenience to the public, particularly in urban areas like Quetta and Turbat.
The Home Department clarified that the restriction is preventive and temporary, aimed solely at protecting lives and maintaining stability. Once the threat level decreases, the ban is expected to be lifted. Meanwhile, additional checkpoints and mobile patrols have been deployed to strengthen border security and monitor vehicle movements within key districts.
