Petrol Pump Owners Demand Rs. 82.5 Billion Fuel Crisis Compensation

Petrol pump owners across Pakistan have demanded Rs. 82.5 billion from the government. The demand is linked to losses caused by the recent war-driven fuel crisis and global price instability.

The issue was discussed in a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat. The session reviewed financial pressure in the energy sector and pending claims from oil marketing companies.

During the meeting, petrol pump owners and oil marketing companies said their costs increased sharply. They linked these losses to the volatility in international fuel markets during the Middle East conflict.

The companies stated that Rs. 82.5 billion is required to cover additional expenses. They argued that price fluctuations created heavy financial pressure on the supply chain.

Officials from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority briefed the committee on government payments. They explained the fuel price adjustment mechanism used to stabilize local prices.

According to officials, the government decided on March 14 to absorb international fuel price increases. This step was taken to protect consumers from sudden price hikes.

They also shared details of payments already made. Around Rs. 17–18 billion was released in the first week. Rs. 15 billion was paid in the second week. Another Rs. 18 billion was disbursed in the third week.

Officials said nearly 40 percent of total dues have already been cleared. However, a significant amount is still pending for oil marketing companies and petrol pump owners.

The committee was also informed that the government may release an additional Rs. 50–55 billion. This amount is expected to settle remaining outstanding payments.

During the discussion, concerns were raised over possible irregular claims. Some companies were accused of requesting payments without actual fuel supply or stock availability.

Lawmakers called for strict monitoring and transparency. They emphasized that any misuse of the system should be investigated and addressed immediately.

The meeting also discussed broader energy sector issues, including fuel supply stability. Members stressed the need for better financial control and accountability.
