In light of the deteriorating situation, Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani engaged in a conversation with his counterpart from the UAE on Saturday. He stated on social media, “Received a call from HH Sheikh #Abdullah_bin_Zayed, Foreign Minister of UAE. We discussed escalating situation in #Gaza, the urgent need for cessation of hostilities and protection of civilians. A coordinated response was emphasized.”
This conversation marked the first contact between Pakistan and a prominent Gulf nation’s top diplomat since the renewed conflict in the Middle East.
An official from the Foreign Office confirmed that Pakistan is actively engaged with other countries to prevent further escalation in Israel’s hostilities. Pakistan is part of the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) Contact Group on Palestine and is in touch with OIC members to address the deteriorating situation.
Despite recent developments, Pakistani officials reject the perception that the country’s role in Middle East diplomacy has diminished. They emphasize that Pakistan has been in contact with relevant countries to ensure the safety of Palestinians since the eruption of tensions.
